The Economics of Recreational Drugs

A brief look at the economics of recreational drugs in common use today. The interesting thing for me is just how economically efficient it is to use recreational drugs rather than alcohol. At a venue recently, a pint of cider/beer costs roughly £7. If one was relying on alcohol alone, then a reasonable night's drinking would probably be anything between the equivalent of 4 pints upwards. About £30 upwards. But one MDMA tablet (£3), some 510 cart rips (say, £1) and have one pint, that's about £11. Even at 2 MDMA tablets, one is talking in terms of £14.
And sensibly consumed, is there a moral/ethical/medical reason not to take some kinds of recreational drugs this way?
